A $240,000 filly from the first crop of Belmont Stakes winner Mo Donegal led the way at the opening session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co.’s fall yearling sale.
OBS reported 146 horses sold Tuesday, on the first day of its two-session sale, for gross receipts of $3,255,600. With 104 horses sold for $1,713,900 in the opener last year, that led to gains elsewhere, as well.
The average price for the session was $22,299, up 35 percent from $16,480 in the corresponding session last year. The median rose 50 percent, to $15,000 from $10,000.
The session-leading filly, who is already named Expectations, was purchased by a stable named Dream With Me Florida LLC, from the consignment of Kaizen Sales, as agent. Young sire Mo Donegal, by sire of sires Uncle Mo, won the Grade 2 Wood Memorial and Remsen, in addition to the 2022 Belmont Stakes.
The filly, an April foal, is out of the unraced Speightstown mare On the Good List, dam of two winners from three starters. The mare is a half-sister to Grade 1-winning millionaire Dunbar Road. This also is the immediate family of Kentucky Oaks winner Secret Status.
“The filly justified the price,” said Richard Kent of Kaizen Sales. “She was just a superstar all week.”
