DEL MAR, Calif. – Om N Joy is likely to start in the Grade 3 Torrey Pines Stakes for 3-year-old fillies at Del Mar on Aug. 30 after extending her winning streak to four races with her third consecutive stakes win in Friday’s $152,000 Fleet Treat Stakes for statebreds.
“I think the Torrey Pines would be a good place to jump into open company,” trainer Aggie Ordonez said on Monday.
“I know it’s a big step up. I feel like she’s doing well enough here and the timing is just right. It gives her five weeks.”
The $100,000 Torrey Pines Stakes is run at a mile and is part of the track’s biggest racing day of the summer meeting. The program includes the $1 million Pacific Classic and three other graded stakes.
Om N Joy won the seven-furlong Fleet Treat Stakes by 4 1/4 lengths. In the spring, she won her first two starts in stakes at Santa Anita in the $126,000 Evening Jewel Stakes at 6 1/2 furlongs on April 5, and the $125,500 Melair Stakes at 1 1/16 miles on May 24.
Ordonez, who trains Om N Joy for Jerry and Connie Baker, Michael Golovko, and Terry Scanlan, said the filly recovered quickly from the Fleet Treat.
“I think that might have been one of the easiest races on her,” she said. “She bounced right out of it.”
