Palacein pushed past pacesetter Gray Lightning in the stretch to win the $50,000 Wilma Mankiller for the second year in a row Monday at Will Rogers Downs. Take Me Serious finished a half-length back in second, while it was another two lengths to third-place finisher and 4-5 favorite Gray Lightning.
The six-furlong race was for fillies and mares. It was run on a fast track.
Palacein ($7.80) tracked Gray Lightning from the start, with fractional times unavailable. The leader took the field into the stretch, where Palacein dug in to get past her before going on to cover the distance in 1:12.70.
Floyd Wethey Jr. was aboard the winner for trainer Scott Young.
Palacein is a daughter of Palace Malice who races for her breeder, Cimarron TTT Farms. She has now won 7 of 22 starts for earnings of $255,536.
