Pick six carryover of $44,200 to be transferred to first day of Belmont Racing Festival at Saratoga

The Belmont Stakes Racing Festival at Saratoga will begin June 6, with a card highlighted by the Belmont Gold Cup.

The pick six carryover of $44,200 that was to have been part of Monday’s Memorial Day card at Aqueduct will be transferred to the June 6 card at Saratoga after two legs of Monday’s sequence were transferred from the turf to the dirt after the wager had begun.

By New York State Gaming Commission rule, when two or more races of a multi-race sequence change surfaces, the carryover cannot be distributed on that day.

The announcement of the surface changes from the turf to the dirt for races 6 and 7 came after the first leg of the pick-6 had begun. Rain, which had been forecasted, fell hard as race 4 was being run.

There was $230,327 wagered into the pick six on Monday. United Tote was unable to change the takeout rate from 24 percent – the rate on a carryover day – to 15 percent, the rate on a non-carryover day after wagering closed. Thus, NYRA seeded Monday’s pool with an additional $21,000 which effectively made the takeout rate Monday 14.88 percent.

Those who correctly selected all six winners in Monday’s sequence received $407 for a $1 ticket.

It is expected there will be 10 races on the June 6 card – topped by the $250,000 Belmont Gold Cup and three other stakes. Entries for that day’s card are to be taken on Friday.
