Kentucky Derby winner Sovereignty closed at 19-1 in the Preakness Future Wager, a fat price - if he starts.

Journalism, who finished second as the favorite in Saturday’s Kentucky Derby, was made the 5-1 favorite in the Preakness Future Wager, which closed on Saturday, prior to the Derby being run.

The wager handled $348,245.

Journalism was the only horse in the 39-horse field who closed at single-digits odds. His connections have not yet announced a decision on whether they will target the May 17 Preakness, held at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland.

Sovereignty, the winner of the Derby, closed at 19-1. His connections also remain uncommitted to running in the race despite the lure of the Triple Crown.

Rodriguez, the Wood Memorial winner who was scratched from the Derby on Thursday with a foot bruise, was the second choice at 11-1, followed by Baeza and Sandman, at 14-1. Baeza finished third in the Derby and Sandman finished seventh.

Clever Again and American Promise, two horses that are already being definitively pointed toward the Preakness, were both 15-1.

The entry of “all other three year olds” other than those listed individually in the pool closed at 22-1.
