Red Mile: Carve breaks through in Kentucky Championship Series

Carve converted a pocket trip into a Kentucky Championship Series victory

Carve picked up her first career win and did so in style in the $80,000 Kentucky Championship Series test for 2-year-old trotting fillies on Monday afternoon at The Red Mile, scoring in 1:52 3/5 to become the fastest horse in her division so far in 2025.

56-1 shot Country Glide (David Miller) cut fractions of 27 4/5, 56 1/5 and 1:24 3/5 with Carve (Andy McCarthy) in the pocket. The pace-setter was game in the lane, but Carve had the better kick in the final eighth and got up to prevail by a length. Naked And Famous (Todd McCarthy) was third, followed by Victorianas Secret (Scott Zeron) and Kngtstlkrs Games (Marvin Luna).

Noel Daley trains Carve, a daughter of Captain Corey bred by Diamond Creek Farm, for owners Patricia Stable, L. A. Express Stable LLC. and Sjoblom Racing Inc. She has one victory, four seconds and two thirds from seven outings, has earned $107,166 and returned $10.48 to win as a 4-1 offering.

Walner filly Creator led throughout in a 1:54 triumph in the first $30,000 Kentucky Commonwealth Series split and paid $14.78 to win. Bred by Diamond Creek Farm and bred by Order By Stable, she was driven by Dexter Dunn for trainer Marcus Melander and owner Creator Stable. The other section went to Zaheera, a daughter of Gimpanzee who turned a second-over trip into a 1:54 3/5 win for Andy McCarthy, co-owner/trainer Noel Daley and co-owners Allister Stables LLC., Harbor Racing Stable LLC. and Sjoblom Racing Inc. Zaheera returned $3.62 to win.

Capturing four $15,000 Kentucky Golden Rod Series divisions were:

--Out The Window (by Googoo Gaagaa and bred by Coyote Wynd Farms, paid $12.20 to win) in 1:56 1/5 for driver Andy McCarthy, trainer Carter Pinske and owners Pinske Stables and Andray Farm;

--Julie Palema (by Walner and bred by Kentuckiana Farms and Bender Sweden Inc., paid $13.54 to win) in 1:56 for driver Andy Miller, trainer Julie Miller and owner Patrick Hoopes;

--Clemency (by Father Patrick and bred by Diamond Creek Farm, co-owner Mel Hartman and Little E LLC., paid $60.58 to win) in 1:55 for driver Andy Miller, trainer Carter Pinske and co-owners Pinske Stables and Mark Robinson;

--Antebellum (by Bar Hopping and bred by owner Jim Avritt Sr., paid $36.58 to win) in 1:55 for driver Scott Zeron and trainer Gregg McNair.
