Rose’s Desert, a multiple stakes winner who as a broodmare has produced five stakes winners led by $12 million earner Senor Buscador, had a debut winner last weekend at Remington Park.
The Hell We Did was a neck winner of a maiden special weight for 2-year-olds. He is a son of Authentic who races for the same connections as Senor Buscador, who also won his debut at 2 at Remington.
The Hell We Did won over six furlongs under David Cabrera.
“He didn’t break as sharp as he can, and you could see him gather the field pretty quickly,” said trainer Todd Fincher. “He’s got natural speed. And then he wanted to take off about the three and a half pole and the rider grabbed him. He did the right thing. You could see him grab him, take another hold, and it looked like he ran to the lead and ran with that horse, wasn’t interested in drawing away from him or anything, which is fine.
“He’s learning and he showed that in the morning. He’ll outclass his opponents and then he’ll wait on them once he’s passed them. So, pretty typical for what we expected.”
Fincher wants to move The Hell We Did to two turns in his next start.
“We’ll go along until we get a longer race and see what he does there, but I think he’s just top and bottom a route horse,” he said. “I’d like to run him a mile in a conditioned race next.”
The Hell We Did races for his breeder, Peacock Family Racing Stable. Last month, his half-sister, Rose A, became a stakes winner at the Downs at Albuquerque.
