Run Rudolf made a forceful move on the turn for home to pass post-time favorite Apprehend and win the $50,000 S.W. Randall Plate by 3 1/4 lengths on Saturday at Hastings.
Apprehend crossed the wire in second but was disqualified for interfering with What's Shakin on the rail at the approximate time that Run Rudolf blew by both on the outside. Hence, What's Shakin was promoted from fourth to third, giving Cindy Krasner, who also trains Run Rudolf, two of the top three finishers.
Lucky Force was moved to second. Run Rudolf, with Silvino Morales aboard, paid $6.20 to win and covered the 1 1/8-mile distance in 1:49.11.
Run Rodolf's victory validated the 4-year-old's win in the BC Cup Classic on Aug. 4. That was his first stakes race, with Saturday's win making him 2 for 2 since Krasner bumped him up from the allowance level. Run Rudolf now has six wins from 11 career starts.
Earlier, in the $50,000 Delta Colleen for fillies and mares, the 1-9 favorite Avana overcame plodding fractions of 26.50 seconds for the quarter-mile and 51.43 for the half to cruise past pacesetting stablemate Viva La Diva near the wire and win by three-quarters of a length. It was another 1 1/2 lengths back to Wirly Girly in third.
Amadeo Perez had the call aboard Avana for trainer Barbara Heads. The 4-year-old, who's now 9 for 10 at Hastings and 11 for 14 in her career, paid $2.10 to win and covered the 1 1/16 miles in 1:45.79.
Saturday's seven-race program was run after Friday's five-race card was canceled due to poor air quality wrought by area wildfires. A track spokesperson told Daily Racing Form that those races will be redrawn Wednesday and tacked onto the program for this coming Saturday's BC Derby card.
