Back from his near-hit with Just Beat the Odds in the $2 million Riyadh Sprint Stakes, trainer Gregg Sacco will be in action Wednesday at Tampa with two runners in a far less prestigious event, even if it is the proverbial feature on the nine-race card.
Sacco will send out both Can Do and Blue Fashion in the starter allowance/optional $12,500 claiming race at one mile and 40 yards.
“Can Do we got from Gary Contessa. She had some time off but she’s trained really well, she’s very competitive,” said Sacco, who has leading rider Samuel Marin to ride. “When they put blinkers on her and stretched her out, she got progressively better.”
Blue Fashion had been facing tougher in Southern California before finishing second for $8,000 nonwinners-of-two-lifetime on Jan. 24 and then clearing that condition when stretched out to this distance on Feb. 8.
“She overwhelmed the field. She had solid form in California and had a little back class,” Sacco said. “It’s a quick turnaround but she came out of the race well.”
Castagna, Sweet Nola, Angela’s Party Girl, and Three Run Bolt, the top four finishers from this same condition on Jan. 30, are all back in this spot three weeks later.
