Santa Anita has added Thursday, April 2 as a racing day to its current winter-spring meeting, the track announced recently.
The April 2 races will be part of a four-day racing week that includes the Santa Anita Derby program on April 4, one of the most highly anticipated days of the season. The April 4 program includes four other stakes, including the Grade 2 Santa Anita Oaks for 3-year-old fillies.
The current winter-spring meeting ends on April 5. There is a weekend without live racing on April 10-12 before the spring meeting begins on April 17 and runs through June 14.
Santa Anita has canceled seven days of racing at the current meeting because of inclement weather – three days in both December and January, and Feb. 16. The April 2 program is the fifth makeup day of the season.
