SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – She Feels Pretty, a head winner over European invader Diamond Rain in Saturday’s Grade 1 E.P. Taylor at Woodbine, will be aimed at the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf at Del Mar on Nov. 1.
Trainer Cherie DeVaux said Monday that the coming weeks will decide whether she simply trains She Feels Pretty to that race or runs her once beforehand, perhaps in a spot like the Grade 3, $175,000 Waya Stakes at Aqueduct on Oct. 5.
“She runs well fresh. We trained her into races her whole career and, so far, she’s fired every time,” DeVaux said Monday. “There is the Waya if we feel like she needs a race, but if not, we’ll just train to the Breeders’ Cup. It’s a long way [away], but there’s not really a lot for her on this coast and it wouldn’t be ideal to ship her out and leave here there for the Rodeo Drive [at Santa Anita] or something of that nature.”
She Feels Pretty, who was beaten a head by Excellent Truth at Saratoga in the Grade 1 Diana on July 12, turned aside a challenge from Diamond Rain, trained by Charlie Appleby, in the E.P. Taylor. It was 10 1/2 lengths back to the rest of the field.
“It’s nice to see her dig in, and she had to really work for it, which was good,” DeVaux said.
She Feels Pretty returned to Saratoga on Sunday and will stay here until the end of August before likely moving to Kentucky, where DeVaux is based.
She Feels Pretty won for the eighth time in 12 starts. It was her fifth career Grade 1 victory, second this year. She Feels Pretty, a daughter of Karakontie, is owned by the Lael Stables of Gretchen and Roy Jackson.
