SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Thorpedo Anna, the reigning Horse of the Year who won a thrilling renewal of the Grade 1 Personal Ensign by a nose on Aug. 23, will most likely make her next start in the Grade 1 Spinster on Oct. 5 at Keeneland, trainer Kenny McPeek said Sunday.
McPeek announced the Spinster as the race of choice on his X account Sunday afternoon, when he posted that he was offering those in Saratoga an opportunity to visit Thorpedo Anna at McPeek’s Saratoga barn on Monday between 9-9:30 a.m. In that post, McPeek said Thorpedo Anna would be in Saratoga for only a short time longer before shipping to Churchill Downs, where she will be based before the Spinster. McPeek won the Spinster with Take Charge Lady in 2002 and 2003.
“Why wouldn’t you want to win another Spinster?” McPeek said. “It’s a Grade 1 and she’s stacked them. I’m leaning that way. It’s not set in stone. Like I often say, it’s a trainer’s prerogative to change his mind.”
Despite the Personal Ensign being a hard-fought race, McPeek said Thorpedo Anna “is doing super. She’s come out of her race as good as ever.”
McPeek said that Thorpedo Anna could return to the work tab this weekend in Saratoga before shipping to Kentucky.
