Puca delivered a filly by Good Magic, making her a full sibling to Kentucky Derby winner Mage and Belmont and Haskell winner Dornoch.

Puca, honored as Broodmare of the Year last month, has kept herself in the news this week, with a new foal, a son placing in the Kentucky Derby, and an opportunity for fans to become involved in the career of her next son in the pipeline.

Puca delivered a filly by Good Magic, a full sister to 2023 Kentucky Derby winner Mage and 2024 Belmont Stakes winner Dornoch, on May 5 at Resolute Farm in Midway, Ky. The filly is a half-sister to Baeza, who less than 48 hours prior, had finished third in the Kentucky Derby, and to stakes-placed Gunning. Baeza is being pointed to the Belmont Stakes, and will attempt to give Puca, one of just nine mares to produce multiple individual Triple Crown race winners, an unprecedented third consecutive classic hero.

Resolute Farm owner John Stewart reported that “Mom and baby are doing fine.”

Puca is the dam of a yearling colt by Good Magic, who the staff at Resolute nicknamed “Preaky” – a reference to the lone Triple Crown race the mare’s progeny have yet to win. Stewart, who purchased Puca at the 2023 Keeneland November sale, recently entered into a deal with the microshare ownership experience group MyRacehorse to allow fans to buy into the colt.

According to published reports and details on MyRacehorse’s site, Stewart sold a 51 percent interest in the colt to MyRacehorse for $2,295,000, placing his total valuation at $4.5 million. Stewart then purchased 26 percent of the MyRacehorse partnership back to retain controlling interest in the horse, leaving 25 percent available in shares to purchase. Investors will pay $98 for a microshare in the colt, who Stewart intends to eventually send to Chad Brown, who trained the colt’s sire, Good Magic.

Puca will embark on her next adventure later this year, after her foal is weaned. Stewart intends to ship the mare to England to be bred to unbeaten champion and leading sire Frankel on Southern Hemisphere time, for a foal who could perhaps run in Australia. The Southern Hemisphere breeding season goes from September through December, and some prestigious Northern Hemisphere stallions, who do not shuttle, are made available in this season for mares willing to ship to them.

Puca will remain in England to eventually be bred to the Juddmonte stallion on a later Northern Hemisphere season, as well.

“The baby who is bred on Northern Hemisphere time will come here and win the Kentucky Derby, and the one on Southern Hemisphere time will go to Australia and win the Melbourne Cup,” Stewart said on an innovative livestream where he announced mating plans for his broodmare band in the style of a sports draft. “You can’t do any of these things if you don’t try. . . . We’re really excited to get the team at Juddmonte to agree to that plan. We appreciate their support.”
