Sunday Belmont at the Big A card canceled due to forecasted storm

Sunday's card at Aqueduct has been canceled due to expected strong winds and heavy rain.

Sunday’s nine-race card at Aqueduct has been canceled due to a forecasted nor’easter that was expected to bring heavy rain and strong winds to the New York City area, the New York Racing Association announced Saturday afternoon. 

The National Weather Service has placed New York City under a wind advisory beginning at noon Sunday, with the forecast calling for sustained winds of 25 to 35 miles per hour with gusts up to 50 mph. As much as a half-inch of rain also was in the forecast for Sunday, with more expected Sunday night into Monday. 

The $150,000 Carle Place Stakes, a six-furlong turf race for 3-year-olds, will be rescheduled for Oct. 19, entries for that day’s card will be taken Wednesday. 

Aqueduct will be open Sunday for simulcasting. Live racing is to resume Thursday.
