Sunlit Song is getting some time off on his trainer's farm.

Sunlit Song, who has run in the last four editions of the Remington Green, will miss Sunday’s renewal because he is getting some time off, according to trainer Mindy Willis.

Sunlit Song has won the Remington Green twice, in 2020 and 2023. He was second in the race in both 2021 and 2022.

Sunlit Song is the reigning Texas-bred of the year and overall has won 18 races from 45 starts for earnings of $757,520. The 9-year-old gelding races for Carolyn Barnett and Becky Harding.

“He’s on vacation right now,” Willis said. “He had a little issue we’ve been fighting and I just told the ladies I’d turn him out and see if Mother Nature can help him out.

“He is 9. He’ll tell us when he’ll retire. He might be telling us, for all I know. But right now, he’s in my back pasture at my house, chilling, enjoying his time.”

Willis has a farm about 15 minutes from Remington.

“I’ll bring him back in here when the weather starts turning a little bit bad,” she said. “I don’t want him to be out in it.”

Based on how his time off serves him, Sunlit Song could winter at Sam Houston.

“We’ll see what happens,” Willis said. “It’s a day-by-day scenario.

“He’s running out in the pasture like a wild man. He’s like, ‘Hey, put me in the Remington Green! Why am I out here?’ He runs around that pasture like he’s on the Remington green.”
