Gulfstream Park has announced the stakes schedule for its Sunshine meet. The Grade 3, $200,000 Princess Rooney Invitational, which has been a springboard for recent female sprint champions Soul of an Angel (2024) and Ce Ce (2021), is set for Sept. 20.
The seven-furlong race is a Win and You’re In for the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint later this year at Del Mar. Soul of an Angel won last year’s Princess Rooney and BC Filly and Mare Sprint, while Ce Ce captured both races in 2021.
The Sunshine meet will feature a total of 17 stakes worth a cumulative $1.6 million. It runs from Sept. 5-Nov. 23.
The meet will include the first two legs of the Florida Sire Stakes series for 2-year-olds. The running of both six-furlong divisions, the $100,000 Dr. Fager and $100,000 Desert Vixen for fillies, is Sept. 6. The seven-furlong divisions, the $150,000 Affirmed and $150,000 Susan’s Girl for fillies, are Oct. 18.
There are seven turf stakes scheduled for the meet, with the $75,000 Bob Umphrey and $75,000 Ginger Punch sharing a card with the Princess Rooney.
