There Goes Harvard back in training

DEL MAR, Calif. – There Goes Harvard, best known for winning the Grade 1 Hollywood Gold Cup at Santa Anita in 2022, has resumed training for an 8-year-old campaign in 2026.

Owned by Gary Barber and Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners, There Goes Harvard has had six workouts at Santa Anita for trainer Michael McCarthy since mid-October. McCarthy said in a recent interview that There Goes Harvard will race at the Santa Anita winter-spring meeting that begins Dec. 26. In his last start, There Goes Harvard won the Grade 3 San Marcos Stakes at 1 1/4 miles on turf at Santa Anita in February.

“He had a niggling kind of injury that didn’t require any surgery, just some time off,” McCarthy said.

There Goes Harvard has won 5 of 21 starts, with three wins on turf and two on dirt. There Goes Harvard could resume racing on either surface.

“He’ll do whatever is out there,” McCarthy said.
