There Goes Harvard, winner of the Grade 1 Hollywood Gold Cup in 2022, was recently retired, trainer Michael McCarthy said earlier this week.

There Goes Harvard won his final start in the Grade 3 San Marcos Stakes at Santa Anita in February 2025. He was in training last summer and fall before the decision was made to end his career.

An 8-year-old horse by Will Take Charge, There Goes Harvard won five of 21 starts and earned $764,590 in a career that began in early 2021.

Aside from his win in the Hollywood Gold Cup, There Goes Harvard was second in the $200,000 Ellis Park Derby in 2021, and second in the Grade 2 John Henry Turf Championship at Santa Anita in 2024.

In his final start of 2024, There Goes Harvard was 10th of 13 in the Breeders’ Cup Turf at Del Mar.

There Goes Harvard was bred by Mike Cannon and raced for him until late summer of 2024 when he was purchased privately by Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners and Gary Barber. There Goes Harvard made his final four starts for that partnership.

There Goes Harvard will be retired to Cannon’s ranch in Nevada, McCarthy said.
