Thorpedo Anna, the cinch for the Eclipse Award for 3-year-old filly and a leading candidate for Horse of the Year, features in three of the performances up for the “Moment of the Year,” according to a list distributed by the award’s administrator, the National Thoroughbred Racing Association.
Ten performances are up for the award, which is determined by voting at the NTRA’s website and the social media site X. Voting opened on Thursday, and votes will be taken until the end of Jan. 15. Connections of the winner will be honored with an Eclipse Award at the Eclipse ceremonies on Jan. 23.
Two of Thorpedo Anna’s wins are each up for the award – the Kentucky Oaks and the Breeders’ Cup Distaff. In addition, the Travers Stakes, in which Fierceness held off Thorpedo Anna for the win, is also a candidate.
The other moments, in chronological order, include:
* Jockey Frankie Dettori winning six straight races on the Santa Anita Derby Day card.
* Mystik Dan winning the Kentucky Derby, giving trainer Ken McPeek the Oaks-Derby double.
* Seize the Grey winning the Preakness Stakes for 88-year-old trainer D. Wayne Lukas and owner MyRacehorse.
* Dornoch winning the Belmont Stakes.
* Emma-Jayne Wilson becoming the all-time leading purse earner among female jockeys.
