Tizzy in the Sky retired; will be bred to Not This Time

Tizzy in the Sky, who earned more than $500,000 in her career, will be retired.

Tizzy in the Sky, who last month won the Ladies Stakes by three lengths at Aqueduct, has been retired from racing and will be bred to Not This Time, owner Donnie Orenstein said Friday.

Following the Ladies, the tentative plan was to run Tizzy in the Sky one more time in the Azeri Stakes on March 8 at Oaklawn Park. That race became less appealing when the connections of reigning Horse of the Year Thorpedo Anna announced their intention for that filly to make her 4-year-old debut in that spot.

That became a moot point when Tizzy in the Sky came out of a Jan. 31 workout off in her right foreleg, Orenstein said. Tizzy in the Sky would have needed a minimum of 45 days off, which would have delayed her return to the races until late spring or early summer.

Tizzy in the Sky, by Sky Kingdom and out of the Tiznow mare Tiz the Tide, had a record of 6-4-0 from 14 starts with earnings of $581,025. She made one start for Ray Handal, four starts for Jose Camejo, and her last nine for Todd Pletcher.

Tizzy in the Sky won the Grade 3 Go for Wand in December and the Top Flight Invitational in April 2024.

“She’s been a godsend, ”Orenstein said. “She really put us on the map and gave us an idea of what a good horse is.”
