Three veteran members of the handicapping contest circuit, including one winner of the National Horseplayers Championship, have been voted into the NHC Hall of Fame, the administrator of the tournament, the National Thoroughbred Racing Association, announced on Tuesday.
The three individuals – Jim Benes, Cheryl McIntyre, and Rich Nilson – were voted into the Hall of Fame through a nomination and voting process involving nearly 1,000 other horseplayers. The three will be honored during the awards’ dinner at the conclusion of this year’s National Horseplayers Championship, scheduled for March 14-16 in Las Vegas.
Benes, from La Grange, Ill., won the NHC in 2013 and has appeared in 11 NHCs. McIntyre, from Masillion, Ohio, won the 2016 NHC Tour championship and has appeared in 13 NHCs. Nilson, from Tarpan Springs, Fla., has appeared in 19 NHCs during a 30-year career playing in handicapping tournaments.
