Bless the Broken, third to Good Cheer in the Kentucky Oaks, is being pointed to a rematch with that undefeated filly in the Grade 1, $500,000 Acorn on June 6 at Saratoga, trainer Will Walden said.
Bless the Broken, winner of the Bourbonette Oaks, had a bit of a wide trip in the Oaks. She finished 3 1/2 lengths behind Good Cheer and 1 1/4 lengths behind runner-up Drexel Hill, who rallied inside of Bless the Broken in the stretch.
“She is, right now, at least numbers-wise, about the second-best filly in the country at nine furlongs,” Walden said. “She ran, at least on sheets, a better number than the second-place finisher.”
Walden said Bless the Broken spent a week at WinStar Farm following the Oaks but has recently rejoined his Churchill Downs stable and will breeze next weekend.
Walden also said he is pointing Pipsy to the Grade 2, $200,000 Intercontinental Stakes at Saratoga on June 5. Pipsy, who won the Grade 3 Soaring Softly Stakes at Aqueduct in May 2024, is coming off a two-length allowance win at Keeneland on April 19.
“She’s doing really, really well,” Walden said. “She’s been at Churchill breezing on the grass over there. [We’re] just excited to get her back into stakes company.”
Last September, Pipsy finished second, beaten a half-length by Simply In Front, in the Grade 2, $2 million Music City Stakes at Kentucky Downs. Simply In Front upset the Grade 2 Distaff Turf Mile at 15-1 on May 3.
