Twin B Joe Fresh improved to two-for-two in 2025 and won her second straight edition of the Grade 1 C$287,000 Roses Are Red final for older pacing mares at Woodbine Mohawk Park, blowing out her rivals by open lengths in a powerful 1:48 4/5 performance for co-owner/driver Dexter Dunn and co-owner/trainer Chris Ryder on Saturday night.
My Girl EJ (Todd McCarthy) blasted out from post one to lead the way early, but she would yield to sit in the pocket behind Sylvia Hanover (Bob McClure) after the 26 2/5 quarter. Sylvia Hanover would then be overtaken by a brushing-from-third Aardie B Miki N (Jason Bartlett), but hot on Aardie B Miki N's heels was Twin B Joe Fresh, and she took control beyond the 55 1/5 half-mile marker.
On the last turn My Girl EJ made a second move and vacated the pylons to come first-over, but she never threatened Twin B Joe Fresh, as the 2024 Horse of the Year in the U.S. rolled through three-quarters in 1:22 1/5 and then kicked home in 26 3/5 to widen and win by 3 1/2 lengths. Sylvia Hanover found room on the inside and got by Aardie B Miki N for second, followed by Soft Shot (David Miller) and Blue Pacific (Doug McNair).
"Just like usual, she felt fantastic. They had her spot on," remarked Dunn. "It was a good mile by her. She didn't feel like she was going that fast; she was doing it so easy. She's just special. Aardie B Miki was breathing down my neck pretty good turning for home and I thought we might have a battle, but this girl can quicken as good as any of them. When she let down, she put separation on them.
"She's gotten bigger every year and gotten better every year, and she's done it again this year. It's a special ride."

A 5-year-old daughter of Roll With Joe, Twin B Joe Fresh is co-owned by Peter Trebotica and Barry Spak. She has a summary of 32-7-1 from 42 outings, has pocketed C$2,898,709 and paid $2.30 to win as the 1-9 favorite.
"We just do the normal things that we can possibly think of training and qualifying," Ryder said about Twin B Joe Fresh's schedule so far that has seen just two pari-mutuel races and four qualifiers. "As everybody knows, there haven't been any suitable races for her, so we had no option. She is what she is. She's not hard to get ready. She's such a beautiful mare, push a button and she's away. We're very blessed.
"I try not to be too nervous. It doesn't help, but a little bit. You've got to race. It was a pretty hard race tonight. She had to do a bit of work. She just keeps coming through, so it's just a great experience."
Ryder added that he's hopeful another Horse of the Year title can be achieved, but didn't want to say too much in case he would jinx it, and that a race against males is a possibility, but it will have to suit her and that he's not adamant about doing it.
