What's the seventh sign of the Apocalypse? Who knows, but it might be Utah legalizing sports wagering.
Simply put, the legalization of sports betting in Utah is never going to happen as long as it is a Mormon-dominated state. The state's criminal code goes so far to state that if online gambling – sports betting or otherwise – is legalized at the federal level, Utah will opt out.
Thankfully, many of Utah's neighboring states have legalized sports betting.
January, 2019
Senator David Hoskins proposes legislation that would legalize horse betting in Utah, arguing that it could help the state's horsemen earn purse money within the state versus having to ship to nearby states like Wyoming, Arizona, California, and Colorado. The bill dies in committee, however.

The state bans the sale of gift cards that can be used to enter sweepstakes contests.

State Representative Kera Birkeland proposes setting up a state lottery, with profits defraying property taxes for senior citizens. The legislation goes nowhere and Birkeland would announce her resignation by year's end.

Believe it or not, there are several horse racetracks in Utah which are overseen by the Utah Horse Racing Commission. You cannot, however, legally bet on horses within state lines, whether in person or online.
